Odisha is one of the 29 states of India, situated in the eastern coast. It is the ninth biggest state by territory and the eleventh biggest in terms of population. Odia is the official and most broadly spoken language that is spoken by 33.2 million as indicated by the 2001 Census.

The predominant ethnic group is the Odia people and Odia is the official dialect. It is spoken as a local dialect by 81.8% of its population. Linguistic Minorities in the state are Bengali, Hindi, Urdu and Telegu. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes structure 16.53% and 22.13% of its population, constituting 38.66% of Odisha’s population. A portion of the essential tribes are Santhal, Kandha and Kora.
